Make your hobby and passion, your business! That is what exactly Deepika Shetty did and it all started with a fondness for cooking and baking.
Today she is an avid pastry chef and enjoys making and creating different varieties of pastries and cakes. She shares with us the events that got her to where she is today.
It started with the first cake she baked for herself on her 22nd birthday, which was a Date and Walnut Cake. This she managed to bake on her own after looking up videos on YouTube. The cake was a big hit with her family and friends and that got her exhilarated and geared for more with the good job done.
What followed was more trials by looking up videos and recipes and the results were fantastic each time. I guess some people are just born with an inherent natural talent for baking the sweet stuff. And she was the person to turn to within her circle of family and friends, for some scrumptiously delicious cupcakes and homemade treats and delights whenever an occasion called for. Even otherwise.
For the last four plus years that she is in Dubai, Deepika has enjoyed baking differently for get-togethers within her social circle. And that got her into a home-baking business when a friend insisted that she bake for her son’s birthday and charge her for the same. Around the same time, she also started her blog under the name of ‘shortgirlbakes’ taking her love to the community at large.
The thing that sets one apart from mediocrity is the hunger to do better than what one already does good. That brought her to ICCA and she joined the Professional Cookery followed by the Professional Patisserie Program to give her talent the finesse and the technical know-how that would give her the cutting edge.
She now actively participates in school events and exhibitions like ‘ARTE’ that showcases hand-made and home-made products, which gives her the freedom to make different things or things a bit differently. Her signature creation is the ‘Double Chocolate Brownie’ which is her best-seller.
We at ICCA are deeply connected to all our alumni and their stories. For in their success, lies ours too!
