WorldSkills International and The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education & Training (ACTVET) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, bring to the UAE this October the worlds largest vocational skills competition to be hosted this time at Abu Dhabi.

A landmark event for UAE, WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 is expected to attract more than a 100,000 overseas visitors besides the local spectators. With more than 1,300 young people from 76 countries and 51 disciplines competing to be recognised as the world’s best, WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 will be the first global skills competition to be held in the Middle East.

WORLDSKILLS COMPETITIONS

Formed in 1950, WorldSkills is a global organization that conducts competitions once every two years, promoting vocational education and training in over 75 Member countries and regions.

Acclaimed to be the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world; the contestants for the event are selected through a preliminary round of competitions held in the member countries and regions. The winning participants from the member countries go on to compete against peers globally, both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks demonstrating their skills for which they prepare for months and at times years in advance.

The WorldSkills Competition is the perfect place to learn about newer industry trends and the most up to date technology, inspiring the youth to explore different career choices, opting for skills-based careers in place of mainstream education and towards a better future.

The young participants coming together on the common platform will also work in unison to write a Youth Declaration on the future of skills and TVET. The Declaration which will set the framework for all future events will be presented to the global decision makers to take note of and implement.

Simon Bartley, President of WorldSkills says, “Bringing the 44th WorldSkills Competition to the Middle East marks a clear recognition that the growth of the regional economy is tied to investment in vocational, technological, and service-oriented education.”

The 44th WorldSkills Competition will take place from the 14th to the 19th October 2017 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
