ICCA Dubai Recognized in UAE’s Year of Giving


It was in December 2016 that the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2017 as ‘The Year of Giving,’ inspired by the values of hospitality and generosity that is the true nature of UAE’s Arab identity and also the country’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The ‘giving’ is highlighted throughout the year based on three key pillars; Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Volunteering and Serving the Nation.

Corporate Social Responsibility refers to the initiatives launched by the private sector companies that are beneficial to the society as a whole. Several high-profile organizations located within the region’s prestigious educational hubs such as Dubai Academic City (DIAC) and Dubai Knowledge Park (DKP) have stayed committed to the Year of Giving through a range of CSR activities that are focused on education, including scholarships worth AED 30 million to over 2800 students.

In line with the Year of Giving, DKP and DIAC acknowledged the best of their academic & business partners by presenting awards to thank them for keeping up with the spirit of giving and their generosity at the recently held annual Iftar gathering at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi. And, ICCA Dubai was humbled to be honored at the event for having spread the spirit of giving into the vocational training sector by launching and providing the One Million Dirham Culinary Scholarship for deserving, but financially underprivileged, young chefs in the UAE Hospitality industry since 2015.

We are honored to continue providing educational opportunities for deserving candidates that will set them up for an enriching and rewarding career ahead,” said Sunjeh Raja, Director & CEO, ICCA Dubai.

What began as a dream shared between Andy Cuthbert, Uwe Micheel and Sunjeh Raja, in 2015, continues to open up new possibilities for young chefs in the industry, who now have the option of choosing their way forward, where they had none earlier.
