Nuts Over Nuts

Be it for a delectable nutty crunch or the perfect protein punch, nuts are touted as a dieter’s dream come true. These nutritional powerhouses lend their flavours and crunch to the simplest dishes, making them taste absolutely irresistible. The myriad health benefits that stem from them keep our appetite stable. No wonder then, we have been urged time and again by health aficionados to incorporate them into our diet.

They are loaded with protein, fibre, essential fats and antioxidants. The FDA has also backed them up, claiming that eating additional servings of certain nuts may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Keeping a check on rising cholesterol and bloating waistlines, they are also the best ways to increase nutrients in our meals. The variants in nuts like chestnuts, Brazil nuts, pecans, tiger nuts, organic nuts, among others can pack your palate with delicate flavours if used well in cooking.

Kick start your morning by adding nuts to hot or cold cereal for a nourishing breakfast. Add them to oatmeal, cereal or even yoghurt! You can also bring your pancakes and waffles to life by sprinkling nuts on them. Even while you are souping, finely chopped almonds and walnuts can be added to the bowl. Also, don’t forget to toss them in salads for a scrummy nutty crunch.

Speaking of dips and desserts, slivered almonds complement sweet treats like a dream! However, they can go rancid quickly so manage the storage well. Another word of caution here is that overindulging on them is bad! However, you can reap their best benefits if you were to consume them moderately.

So be it with the almighty almonds or heavenly hazelnuts, supercharge your health as your taste-buds devour them!
