The ICCA Dilmah School of Tea, Dubai, a world-class initiative from the coming together of two leaders, ICCA Dubai and Dilmah, from their respective industries was inaugurated by Merrill Joseph Fernando, the founder of Dilmah Tea at an official ceremony at the ICCA Dubai on the 5th of December 2017.
The ceremony was carried out in the presence of Dilhan C. Fernando, CEO/Director of Marketing, Dilmah Tea & Director, Dilmah School of Tea, and Sunjeh Raja, Director & CEO, ICCA Dubai, by lighting a lamp to commemorate the momentous occasion, followed by an exquisite Tea and Food Pairing session.
The strategic focus of the ICCA’s Dilmah School of Tea in Dubai would be about introducing new ideas with the application, and varieties and possibilities for enhanced experiences around gourmet tea. Professionals would also be educated on Dilmah’s revolutionary “Afternoon High Tea” concept, where ideas, knowledge, and skills for pairing food items with tea as well as menu design for elegant High Teas are explored in-depth.
The Dilmah School of Tea has been established in Singapore, Australia, Chile, Malaysia, Ireland, UK, India, and now for the first time in the UAE in collaboration with ICCA Dubai. The courses taught at all international Dilmah Schools of Tea include History of Tea, Variety in Tea, Black Tea Manufacturing Process, Terroir in Tea, Brewing a Perfect Cup of Tea, Tea & Health, Tea Inspired, Food Matching with Tea, and Ethics in Tea.
The School of Tea in Dubai would not be just about training sommeliers in tea, but also about influencing entrepreneurs and developing enterprises around tea. This initiative will help take things to a higher level in terms of experience, helping develop trends, culture, and possibilities around tea both for the hospitality industry and enterprises alike.
